Gennaro’s Italian Ristorante is family owned and operated by chef Michael Gennaro, his wife Linda and his brother Robert. While Michael Gennaro’s grandparents hailed from the Abruzzi region in Northern Italy, the restaurant (operating in Charleston since 1982) came to be after Mr. Gennaro deviated from a musical career (he’s a trombone player and attended Manhattan School of Music) to chefdom. Armed with a degree of hospitality, some family recipes and experience from working in Italian restaurants in his native Long Island, New York, Mr. Gennaro pursued his dream and opened Gennaro’s Italian Ristorante.
The menu is reminiscent of one you might encounter in Little Italy – an eclectic, multi-regional blend of gutsy Italian classics such as fettuccini alfredo, linguini with clams, lasagna, veal, beef and seafood. In their latest review which was featured in The Post and Courier, Gennaro’s received high ratings for their quality of food and presentation, service, ambiance and elegance.
